Duration: 4.5h
Description This programme invites secondary school students to delve deeper into the study of metamorphic rocks by observing natural outcrops and analysing the transformations that take place deep in the Earth's crust. Based on the contents of the ‘Materials of the Earth’ theme, participants explore the factors responsible for metamorphism - pressure, temperature and fluids - and learn to identify different types of metamorphic rocks and their characteristic structures. The context of the Terras de Cavaleiros Geopark, rich in formations resulting from regional and contact metamorphic processes, offers an ideal natural laboratory for consolidating knowledge about geological cycles and the Earth's internal dynamics. An essential activity for understanding how geology shapes the planet - and its materials.
