
This regulation is intended for the use of the GEOfood brand by partners of the Portuguese UNESCO World Geoparks. The brand's detailed principles and intentions are set out in the GEOfood Manifesto which can be consulted at www.geofood.no.
GEOfood is a registered trademark in the European Union (n. 018163331) and is coordinated by the UNESCO World Magma Geopark in Norway. Each Portuguese UNESCO World Geopark is responsible for implementing, monitoring and monitoring the brand in its territory, ensuring respect for the criteria and use of the logo. The Geopark will support the member to create a relationship between products and/or services with the geodiversity of the territory. The use of the brand must follow the Graphic Standards Manual, which will be sent after adhesion.
The GEOfood brand is intended for use in territories classified as a UNESCO World Geopark.
The GEOfood brand is intended for use by food producers and products, by catering establishments with GEOfood Menus and by accommodations with GEOfood Menus services. Only entities with fiscal headquarters in UNESCO World Geoparks territories can use the GEOfood brand.
Food products are considered to be raw materials and/or processed products, produced in the territorial area of the Geopark. Examples include fruit and vegetables, olive oil, drinks, fish, meat, mushrooms, sweets (jams, marmalades, etc.), sausages, dairy products, aromatic plants, seasonings, bread and pastries, beekeeping products, among others. Products can be fresh or preserved (preserved in oil or vinegar, dried, dehydrated, salted, frozen, smoked, fermented, etc.).
At least 50% of the raw materials used must come from the territory of the respective Geopark. Production and transformation must be carried out within the Geopark (with exceptions in specific authorized situations). GEOfood products must be related to the territory's geodiversity, highlighting their importance in the Geopark and allowing visitors to enjoy this heritage through gastronomy. The GEOfood brand must appear on the packaging after adhesion. The GEOfood brand must be visible on the premises after joining.
Entities (e.g. farmers, farms, estates, among others) that produce food products in the Geopark territory are considered producers.
