RELIGIOUS HERITAGE | 53. CHURCH OF SÃO LOURENÇO

An 18th century church, the altarpiece and ceiling of the chancel can be dated to around 1728, but the work was attributed years earlier, in 1723, to the master carver João Francisco and, in 1726, to the master painter Gaspar Magalhães. We know that the master painter and gilder Pedro Gonçalves, from the city of Braga, worked on the last years of this campaign. The side altarpieces, today dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima and the Sacred Heart of Jesus, are also in the national style, but later.
