Quinta do Melro was born from the dream and resilience of a couple of Angolan returnees who arrived back home poorer than they left and with two young children to raise.
They clung on to live birds and travelled all over the north-east of Trás-os-Montes with them. Bird by bird they sold, they were able to raise their children and save for the realisation of a bigger dream. They bought a pine forest and their dreams began to take shape; they exchanged and added plots of land until they reached the current size of the farm. Their children grew up, graduated, got married and lived their lives far from their dreams, but not from here. So, like their children, the birds, the olive trees, the chestnut trees, the vegetable gardens and the customers were all part of the family.
Due to their age and a violent robbery here on the farm, this couple challenged their daughter and son-in-law to come and seize this dream, keeping their own: the Marisqueira Novo Mariano
Viemos, today we are the owners of the farm and we can say that what the farm was, is and will continue to be.
To maintain this tradition, Quinta do Melro is a place of nourishment and communion, combining the birds that live here in open-air pens with the organic trademark, extra virgin olive oil, a warm welcome, professionalism and quality so that those who choose to buy our products feel every nanosecond of the dedication and love we put into our birds and our olive oil.
This will continue to be the case because we have added to all this a tourism project that is currently being drawn up and which aims not only to maintain the essence of this farm as a place that is a source of joy, that nurtures, cares for, feeds, brings health and well-being to the birds and progresses as an olive oil brand, but also to integrate all this into a much grander project to bring to the north-east and particularly to our municipality, through a hotel unit, the full recognition of the value that it, the north-east of Trás-os-Montes, and it, Quinta do Melro, have.
