ROUTES | 04. ROTA DOS COGUMELOS

The Small Mushroom Route begins and ends at the Forest Ranger House in the Serra de Bornes. The recommended access to the starting point is from the EN216, which connects Macedo de Cavaleiros to Olmos. The route begins by climbing up to the wind farm on that mountain, located at an altitude of about 1000 m. After passing the wind farm panel, the route continues to the viewpoint, offering a beautiful panoramic view of the entire region. It continues on the side of the mountain facing Grijó de Vale Benfeito, crossing the wind farm, towards the artificial pond that serves as a water reservoir for firefighters. From there, the route changes direction, running along the top of the mountain range towards the Panorâmica Bornes Norte geosite (G38), located 1064 m above sea level, from where you can see much of the northern sector of the Terras de Cavaleiros Geopark. The route then continues along the slopes facing the village of Malta until it returns to the Forest Ranger's House. As the name suggests, on this short route, depending on the time of year and the habitat, it is possible to find edible mushrooms among the pine and oak forests (Macrolepiota castinçais, namely frades or rocas or actarius Deliciosus) l( , sanchas or pinheiras Procera) (Boletus Pinicola).
