RELIGIOUS HERITAGE: FROM THE IMMATERIAL TO THE MATERIAL
The Church of Podence has been a Monument of Public Interest since 2012.
It was built at the beginning of the 18th century.
Inside the church, we can see two altars in the rococo style and another two in the proto-baroque style. The altar on the left has a painting alluding to the Judgement of Souls, attributed to Damião Bustamante, an 18th century painter from Valladolid. Between the side altars and the triumphal arch, oil paintings on wood from the second half of the 18th century allude to episodes from the lives of Christ and Saint Anthony. The ceiling of the chancel is covered in baroque perspective paintings. The altarpiece of the high altar, in gilded and polychrome proto-baroque carving, includes seven paintings on wood from the mid-17th century, with Marian and Christological iconography.
