Located next to the Cernadela bridge, with a square plan of granite stonework resting on two steps, this religious building represents the souls in purgatory and St. Michael. According to the inscription on the façade, it was built by Leonardo José da Cunha Alcoforado in 1766 (“ESTA OBRA MANDOV / FAZER POR SVA DEVOC/AM LEONARDO IOZE D/A CVNHA ALCOFORA/DO DA VILA DOS COR/TIÇOS NO ANNO D 1766”).
In the middle, a rectangular opening, topped by a round arch and enclosed by an iron grille, shows a sculpted representation in granite of St. Michael the Archangel holding a cross and flanked by two angels, with souls at his feet amid the flames of hell. Two columns with Corinthian capitals support a broken pediment with a representation of Jesus Crucified in the center.
A cornice surrounds the entire monument and is topped by a pinnacle surmounted by a cross. A stone coat of arms crowns the façade.
