Narciso Olive Oil is a family-run business, representing experience and tradition combined with the knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation for over 100 years. This olive oil from Trás-os-Montes has an olive variety that is different from Greek, Italian, Alentejo and Douro olive oils. The Santulhana variety produces olives with a very high fat content, giving rise to a full-bodied olive oil. This product is a distinguishing mark of the geopark's geoproducts.
Olive oil is grown on land with particular orographic, geological and climatic characteristics. Olive groves are grown on land at elevations below 800m, on acidic or slightly acidic soils, preferably clay soils, which give the soil good drainage and air circulation. The existing clay soils (schists) are the result of rocks that were once formed on the shores of an ancient continent under water, and which are now submerged due to the action of the forces of nature.
