WHERE TO BUY | 01. BAKER MARIA LUÍSA ARAÚJO

A woman whose tireless spirit and deep love for this land are inspiring. Aunt Maria Luísa, synonymous with tenacity and resilience, is a true force of nature. Her joy and passion for the land continue to guide us and enrich our work every day.
She learned to bake bread at a very early age, but it was only after the Geopark was created that she gained international fame as the “baker of Lagoa” who welcomes visitors and gets them kneading in her wood-fired oven, which also smells of wedges, doughnuts or balls being kneaded.
Tia Maria Luísa is a “treasure” of this territory, a guardian of knowledge and memories that she shares with visitors.
The wheat produced in the Terras de Cavaleiros Geopark, in a territory where fertile land is not abundant, is grown on “schist” rocks which, in the past, were formed at the bottom of the sea and which, due to the action of the forces of nature, are now on the surface. This wheat, from which the flour used in our gastronomy is made, has the advantage of resisting climate change and drought, and its root system allows it to take nutrients from the earth at depth, through the fissures in the rock.
