ROUTES | 08. ROTA PENA DO CORVO

The Pequena Rota Pena do Corvo trail begins and ends at the information panel located in the village square of Lombo, next to the parish council headquarters. The trail follows the main street of this village until it enters the agricultural mosaic, which it follows until it reaches the Azibo River. It continues along the valley formed by that river for more than half of its route, offering several points for contemplating the landscape, notably the Azibo River Valley Viewpoint, the Pena do Corvo Viewpoint, and the Viewpoint of the Balsamão Convent and Serra de Bornes. This section of the route along the Azibo River is part of the Morais Site of Community Importance (Natura 2000 Network), which stands out for being one of the largest continuous units of serpentinite (metamorphic rock) in Portugal, as well as for being home to the largest population of Iberian wolves in the country, which makes it of great geological, botanical, and faunal interest. After leaving the river, the route passes by the diving fountain before returning to the village of Lombo. This short route has a variant that significantly shortens the journey, but still allows you to enjoy the Azibo River, the viewpoint of the Balsamão Convent and Serra de Bornes, and the diving fountain.
