The river beaches of Fraga da Pegada and Ribeira – the latter having been named one of the ‘7 Wonders – Beaches of Portugal’ – are among the major attractions of the Terras de Cavaleiros Geopark.
Nationally recognised, both have consistently been awarded the ABAE Blue Flag and the “Gold Quality” award by Quercus, guaranteeing standards of environmental and bathing excellence.
These areas perfectly combine the leisure of a bathing spot with a breathtaking natural landscape. They are an excellent alternative to coastal beaches, offering exceptional conditions for peaceful, active holidays in close contact with nature.
The sandy beaches and extensive landscaped areas are an excellent invitation to relax or take part in sports. Among the various leisure options, highlights include beach bars, volleyball and football pitches, canoeing, walking trails, bike karts and inflatable water toys, amongst other activities.
The water, with an average surface temperature of 24°C, is perfect for long swims. And for greater safety and accessibility, all bathing areas are supervised by lifeguards and equipped to accommodate people with reduced mobility.
