STAY UP TO DATE WITH ALL LOCATIONS OF GEOLOGICAL INTEREST IN THE TERRAS DE CAVALEIROS GEOPARK
At Monte de Morais, near the village of Sobreda, there is an outcrop, about 1 km long, of very dense, dark rocks. These rocks, known as gabbros, are very rich in ferromagnesian minerals (e.g. amphiboles and pyroxenes). Due to their high density, these rocks occupy the base of the oceanic crust. These gabbros, which were once part of the substrate of the ancient Galicia Trás-os-Montes ocean, are currently present in the territory of the Terras de Cavaleiros Geopark, due to the collision of the continents (Gondwana and Armorica) that bordered it.
