GEODIVERSITY | 29. ALTO DO MONTINHO AMPHIBOLITIC SCHISTS

Retrograde amphibolites from the basal unit of the Ophiolitic Complex are found on the slope of municipal road 564, near the Salselas stream. This site is of great scientific importance as it is possible to observe the interaction between deformation and metamorphic processes. In addition to various folds in the rock materials, elements of prograde metamorphism of the oceanic basalts and amphibolites can be seen, with subsequent retrogradation into green shales.
