RELIGIOUS HERITAGE | 54. CHURCH OF SÃO JERÓNIMO

Eighteenth-century parish church with a single nave and double bell tower. Inside, there are Mannerist altarpieces and a Baroque altarpiece in the National style.
The interior of the church is characterized by the multiplicity of styles of the altarpieces. The side altarpiece, invoking Our Lady of the Conception, is rococo in style. The triumphal arch is flanked by two side altars that combine three different artistic styles: rococo on the chest, Johannine on the bench and proto-Baroque on the body. The combination of the last two styles probably dates back to the second half of the 18th century.
Entering the chancel, the altarpiece, with a National style structure but Joanine decoration, the left pediment of the altarpiece is occupied by the patron saint St. Jerome, an image from the second half of the 15th century, iconographically represented wit
