RELIGIOUS HERITAGE | 52. CHURCH OF SÃO VICENTE

Built in the second half of the 18th century, the church has a niche on the pediment with a sculpture of the patron saint São Vicente.
In the body of the church, the altarpieces of the Souls and the Sacred Heart of Jesus in rococo style stand out. At the back of the church are a set of four confessionals with paintings by Damião Bustamante, with scenes alluding to Death, the Last Judgement, Hell and Paradise.
The chancel altarpiece, in rocaille style and attributed to Francisco Domingos Machado, was probably made between 1770 and 1780 and features a set of sculptures depicting Calvary with the Virgin, St. John and the Crucified Christ. In the attic of the altarpiece are representations of the allegories of Faith, blindfolded, and Hope, with the anchor in the left hand.
