The first chapel built here dates back to the end of 1800, built by Father Marcelino, parish priest of Vale da Porca. The small chapel in Redondelo began to attract this population who had great devotion. This place became even more famous after some reports of miracles, the best known being that of Avelino Fernandes who received the grace of recovering his sight, this miracle was popularized in the song “Milagre de Santo Ambrósio” by Roberto Leal, born in Vale da Porca.
With the spread of the miracle, the number of pilgrims who came to ask for and/or give thanks for graces received began to grow. With the continuous number of faithful seeking this location, it was necessary to build a church which was completed in 1960, and in 1970 the open-air altar. In 1981, Bishop D. António Rafael elevated it to the category of Sanctuary and declared St. Ambrósio as the patron saint of beekeepers in the Northeast.
Currently, the Pilgrimage of Saint Ambrose is one of the largest in the Diocese of Bragança-Miranda.
