RELIGIOUS HERITAGE | 27. CHURCH OF SÃO MIGUEL

The current Talhas church is the result of a project to enlarge the original church, of which the chancel still remains. In the nave, the interior chapel stands out, where there is an altarpiece depicting Calvary and the altarpiece of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in gilded, polychrome and marbled woodcarving, with plant motifs, columns and angels. There is also a painting of the Virgin and John the Evangelist, suggesting that this was the altarpiece of the Passion in the original church.
The chancel is decorated with coffered ceilings depicting the episode of the prodigal son and the apostles, and on the ceiling the life of Christ, with Saint Michael in the center. The intrados of the triumphal arch is decorated with coffins depicting saints. The main altarpiece, in gilded wood carvings decorated with plant motifs, pseudo-Salomonic columns and angels, dates from 1743.
