RELIGIOUS HERITAGE | 48. CHURCH OF SAINT ANTHONY

Founded in the first quarter of the 18th century, the Vilarinho de Agrochão Parish Church, dedicated to Saint Anthony, was the first church in Macedo de Cavaleiros to be classified as a Monument of Public Interest in 1970.
The main façade, made of granite, features four terracotta sculptures at the top. The quadrangular tower, on the left side, was perhaps built at the same time simply to serve as a bell tower.
In the nave, there are two gilded altarpieces, painted figures of Mary and John and a sculpture of the Crucified Christ representing Calvary.
The main chapel is covered in paintings of floral motifs and in the center the figure of Saint Anthony.
The gilded main altarpiece contains a representation of the Holy Trinity.
