RELIGIOUS HERITAGE | 68. CHURCH OF ST. JAMES

There has been a church in Corujas since the Middle Ages, on top of which others were built and rebuilt during the Modern Age until the current church was rebuilt in the 17th and late 18th centuries.
The Mother Church of Corujas houses a triptych from the 16th century. This altarpiece used to be part of the high altar, but in the mid-18th century, when the current National Style gilded altar was built, it was moved to the side wall of the church. The left side depicts St. Peter, the central panel shows an image of St. James, the Moor Killer, riding a horse and raising his sword against “the infidels” in a battle scene, and the right side depicts St. Paul.
