In the vicinity of the village of Azibeiro, on a road embankment next to the viaduct over the A4 motorway, you can see the Vilariça Fault, to which regional seismic activity is related. This is where the 10 metre wide fault box stands out, which brings old shales and more recent sediments into abrupt contact. The fact that the sediments are more recent than the shales and have been knocked down by the fault proves the relatively recent activity of this section of the fault.
