STAY UP TO DATE WITH ALL LOCATIONS OF GEOLOGICAL INTEREST IN THE TERRAS DE CAVALEIROS GEOPARK
Next to the Limãos forester's house, at the crossroads to Castro Roupal, it is possible to see the drift which, within the Ophiolitic Complex, establishes its duplication. You can see the transition between the lower Izeda-Remondes Unit, made up of amphibolites, and the upper Morais-Talhinhas Unit, represented by amphibolites. This is a site of scientific importance in that there is a tectonic superposition of mantle peridotites on the oceanic infra-coast. Near the bus stop, it is possible to identify that the amphibolites have undergone retromorphism in the vicinity of the loading, with the occurrence of asbestos and opals. About 100 meters from this location there are Cenozoic sediments of the Vale Álvaro Formation, formed in an alluvial fan model fed exclusively by the Morais Massif, in response to its tectonic uplift from the Morais Mountains.
