ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE | 09. CHACIM PILLORY

The Chacim Pillory is located in Praça do Pelourinho in the parish of Chacim and has been classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1933. The granite pillory dates from the 17th century. The pillory has a prismatic shaft and a four-armed capital. It has an ornate pine cone at the top. It is decorated with the arms of Portugal, those of the Sampaios, indicating that they may have been the first grantees, as well as a male figure with a key in his hand and a female figure, believed to be Our Lady of Balsamão.
