ROUTES | 17. TRILHO RICARDO MAGALHÃES

The Ricardo Magalhães Short Trail begins and ends at the information panel located in the village of Santa Combinha, near the chapel. It continues towards the Santa Combinha viewpoint, where it begins a circular route that follows the bank of the Azibo Reservoir and is part of the “Santa Combinha Biodiversity Station”. Along this route, 43 species of butterfly have been identified, and there are two privileged spots for birdwatching, including the mallard, swallows, tits, jays, birds of prey, among others. This entire Little Route is part of the Protected Landscape of the Azibo Reservoir and the Morais Site of Community Importance (Natura 2000 Network), which stands out for being one of the largest continuous units of serpentinites (metamorphic rock) in Portugal, as well as being home to the largest population of the Iberian wolf in the country, which gives it a high geological, botanical and faunal interest.
