ROUTES | 14. TRILHO QUERCUS

The Quercus Short Trail starts at the information panel near the Fraga da Pegada Metavolcanite Geosite and ends at the Salselas Central Nucleus. From the Fraga da Pegada Metavolcanite Geosite, the trail heads towards Fraga da Pegada Beach, awarded the Blue Flag and recognized as an accessible beach for people with reduced mobility. It climbs up to the entrance to the village of Santa Combinha and continues along the bank of the Azibo Reservoir to the Central Nucleus of Salselas. The Fraga da Pegada Metavulcanite Geosite is made up of rocks of volcanic origin (metavulcanites) where rock engravings symbolizing footprints, crosses, horseshoes and dimples have been excavated, and is also considered an Archaeological Site of Municipal Interest. The Central Nucleus of Salselas is a space with a bar, auditorium, lounge and accommodation, where tourist, cultural, health and wellness experiences are offered. This entire trail is part of the Protected Landscape of the Azibo Reservoir and the Morais Site of Community Importance (Natura 2000 Network), which stands out for being one of the largest continuous units of serpentinites (metamorphic rock) in Portugal, as well as being home to the largest population of the Iberian wolf in the country, which makes it of great geological, botanical and wildlife interest.
