ROUTES | 05. ROTA DA CASTANHA

The Small Chestnut Route begins and ends at the information panel located at the parish church of Edroso, in the village of Edroso. This medieval church, which has undergone many alterations, features some architectural elements that appear to be very old. From the major restructuring works that this monument underwent, three small decorated stones are still visible, currently displaced from their original location. They are located at the base of the south wall of the building and the decorations are in a characteristically Romanesque style. The route leaves the village, following a watercourse towards Vale de Servo, where you can see chestnut groves in various stages of growth, as well as other types of landscape, such as agro-forestry and agro-pastoral mosaics. The panoramic view over the Azibo reservoir is particularly noteworthy. Classified as a protected landscape since 1999, it is part of the Sabor river basin and stands out for its environmental quality, scenic beauty, and river beaches. After crossing a busy road, the route enters another chestnut grove. The route begins its return to Edroso, where the diving fountain and the Santa Ana chapel are located just at the entrance to the village.
