ROUTES | 01. ROTA ALTO DA CARVALHEIRA

The Alto da Carvalheira Short Route begins and ends at the information panel located in the village of Cortiços. The trail heads towards Cernadela, passing by the Solar dos Cortiços Olive Oil Museum and the Fundo da Vila Chapel. The route crosses the Ribeira de Carvalhais stream via the medieval bridge, where you will also find the Alminha dos Alcoforados shrine. Upon reaching Cernadela, the route continues along the Vale do Medo to the Alto da Carvalheira Viewpoint, returning to the village after passing through the old mining area. In this locality, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição stands out, and before arriving at the starting point in the parish of Cortiços, the Chapel of São Miguel is also noteworthy. Almost the entire route runs through extensive granite outcrops and is part of the Romeu Site of Community Importance, which is part of the Natura 2000 network and consists of a huge area of cork oak (Quercus suber) and juniper (Juniperus oxycedrus var. lagunae) forests in excellent condition.
