GEODIVERSITY | 18. MORAIS TALC AND ASBESTOS

In the vicinity of the village of Morais, there are small artisanal mineral explorations, which are currently abandoned, but which are nonetheless important due to the type of mineral occurrence - talc and asbestos. Talc is used in cosmetics, paints, paper and plastics. Asbestos, also known as asbestos, was once used in various commercial products for its flexibility and chemical, thermal and tensile strength. This type of mineral occurs in association with the metamorphism that affected the peridotitic rocks, which once formed part of the base of the oceanic crust of the former Galicia Trás-os-Montes ocean.
