GEODIVERSITY | 37. MURÇÓS MINES

The Murçós Mining Complex contains a heritage made up of several open-cast exploration fronts, a mining gallery and buildings to support the workings of the mine and the laundry, where the ore was once separated. In Murçós, mining activity was mainly associated with the extraction of wolfram, a metal of great importance for the production of armaments during the Second World War. The extraction of tungsten in the region dates back to 1940 and was suspended between 1976 and 1981.
