STAY UP TO DATE WITH ALL LOCATIONS OF GEOLOGICAL INTEREST IN THE TERRAS DE CAVALEIROS GEOPARK
In the surroundings of the Balsamão Convent, located near the village of Chacim, there are rocks that once formed at the bottom of the ancient Rheic Ocean. This ocean eventually disappeared due to the collision of the continents that bordered it. This is where the best proof of the presence of an ancient oceanic crust lies, as the existing rocks allow us to state with certainty that we are dealing with the same type of rocks that make up the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. The dark bands of rock (dykes) represent the channels through which lava from the interior of Planet Earth rose to the bottom of the ocean.
