GEODIVERSITY | 34. METAVOLCANITES OF FRAGA DA PEGADA

On Fraga da Pegada beach, in the middle of the Azibo Reservoir Protected Landscape, there are very old rocks of volcanic origin, similar to those that currently make up the Azores and Madeira archipelagos. At this geosite, known as ‘Fraga da Pegada’, you can still see several rock engravings carved into the rock, including several footprints (podomorphs), crosses, horseshoes and dimples, which gave rise to the site's name and led to its classification as an Archaeological Site of Municipal Interest.
