GEODIVERSITY | 32. SERRA DO CUBO VIEWPOINT

The lookout point at the top of the Serra do Cubo invites you to enjoy a 360⁰ panoramic view of the Geopark territory. A mountain range bordered to the north-west and south-east by the Vilariça Fault, which, when seen from above, makes you think of the shape of a cube. From here you can get a privileged view of the Azibo Reservoir and the dam that gave rise to it, understanding why this natural depression was used for water storage. The seismic activity associated with the Vilariça Fault explains this depression, but also the tectonic uplift of the Bornes and Nogueira mountains, which are also visible from this viewpoint. There we can also see the surface of Monte de Morais, the Serra de Mogadouro, and the natural depression of Macedo de Cavaleiros.
