GEODIVERSITY | 41. TUELA RIVER VALLEY

This is a canyon valley, caused by the sharp rise of the River Tuela, which reaches a maximum depth of around 300 metres here. The river is embedded in the granites of Lebução and Rebordelo, which outcrop on both banks. You can see the granites in detail and the granite morphology. This is the only place in the municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros where the Tuela River has taken on a recessed character, forming a river canyon by a process of antecedence. The site has aesthetic value and there are cultural elements (hydroelectric exploitation) associated with the geomorphological characteristics of the site.
