ARCHAEOLOGICAL HERITAGE | 06. FRAGA DA PEGADA

The Pegada rock formation is a site with engravings carved into a volcanic rock massif, across 12 panels at different times using the techniques of pecking and abrasion. The most common motifs are cruciforms, followed by horseshoes, footprints, loose lines and dimples. All of the motifs are typical of Iberian Schematic Art and attributed to the Neolithic period. They also have some small steps and a footprint, which may indicate that the site was used for spiritual and symbolic purposes by the prehistoric community. (Caderno Terras Quentes 14)
