ARCHAEOLOGICAL HERITAGE | 02. FORNO ROMANO DE SALSELAS

It is one of the few Roman ovens still preserved in the Iberian Peninsula, built with clay blocks in a pit dug into a rock, which has protected and preserved it to this day. The oven consists of two levels: the heating area (the lower level) and the baking chamber (the upper level) separated by a grid with symmetrical holes. A fragment of carbonized ceramic was found inside. Although there is no certainty as to its use, its small size and thermal characteristics indicate that it would not have been used to bake large pieces of ceramic. (Caderno Terras Quentes 14)
