ARCHAEOLOGICAL HERITAGE | 05. POVOADO DE XAIRES

The archaeological site of Xaires, dating from the Chalcolithic, is an open settlement located on a gently sloping hill, with a flat, open top and good visual command of the landscape. Some housing structures were identified in this area, such as hut post holes, but it was not possible to determine whether there was a single period of occupation or several levels of occupation. Several fragments of pottery were also discovered, many decorated with impressions and incisions, and diverse lithic remains, with quartz and quartzite being the most commonly used raw materials.
